SPOKANE, Wash. -- The man accused of shooting his friend in the head and trying to dismember his body was sentenced on Friday.
Jeremy McVicker, 19, will serve up to 5 years and 3 months (63 months total) in jail.
McVicker was arrested on January 29. Police said McVicker accidentally shot Dylan Heinen, 19, and tried to dismember his body with a hatchet to conceal the crime. Court documents showed McVicker hit Heinen 40 times with the hatchet.
Authorities said the incident happened at 5 a.m. on January 29 in the 4800 block of North Lincoln in north Spokane.
Police said a witness called 911 an hour after the shooting to report one of his friends shot another friend. Officers said a man with blood on his feet answered the door when they arrived. They walked in to find the victim, a 19-year-old man, dead.
Authorities believed the man who called 911 and a woman were in the house during the shooting. Officers questioned and released both people.
