SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane police are looking for the woman they believe stabbed her boyfriend at a home on W. Wellesley Ave., between N. Bemis and N. Rustle streets.
Police say multiple people were inside the home when April Fletcher allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in the chest just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said it was another person inside the house who called 9-1-1. When police arrived, they looked for Fletcher with the aid of a K-9 unit, but could not locate her.
“One of the cops shined his flashlight right on us because I’m sure they were looking for activity,” neighbor Cassie Breithaupt said.
The victim went to the hospital in “life-threatening” condition, according to police. Following surgery, doctors upgraded his status to “critical” but “stable” condition.
Neighbors say they have not heard of crime like this so close to their homes in all the years they’ve lived there.
“It makes you wonder, ‘Well, who is living there?’ It was a little shocking to find out,” Breithaupt said.
Major Crimes detectives are taking over the investigation and plan to collect evidence inside the home once a search warrant is secured.
