LONG LAKE, Wash.—Authorities said a man reportedly drowned Friday night in Long Lake.

Multiple agencies responded to reports of a drowning on Long Lake, just north of the Adams/Grant County line.

Authorities said 31-year-old Arturo Valdez was fishing when he reportedly fell into the water and never resurfaced. His younger brother heard a splash, but could not locate Arturo according to the sheriff’s office.

Another group of fishermen and members of the Grant County Fire District were unable to find Valdez. A diver with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office later found him 32 ft below the surface in the area that reportedly fell in.

“This is a very sad, tragic outcome for the Valdez family and the civilian and joint responders trying to get to Mr. Valdez in time,” said Sheriff Tom Jones. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Valdez family for their heartbreaking loss.”

Grant County Sheriff's Office originally said the victim had Down Syndrome, but family members later confirmed that he did not.

Authorities scheduled an autopsy for Saturday afternoon.  Members of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office did not believe there was anything criminal about the drowning.
