WEST LINN, Ore. -- A man has been arrested for stealing a West Linn soldier's book containing military records, photos and awards, but the stolen goods have not been recovered.

On May 16, Sgt. Daniel Tomes said a backpack containing a three-ring binder with the records and awards was taken from the trunk of his car near Tanner Creek Park.

The stolen items included paperwork for a bronze star he earned for removing several bombs from a field in Afghanistan.

Over the past week, West Linn police and Tigard police investigated a suspicious call at a Tigard Shopping center, where they found paperwork that belonged to Tomes.

On Saturday, West Linn Police arrested transient Casey Lee Murphy, 28, for stealing the items.

Unfortunately, most of the papers, photos and paperwork for the Bronze Star were not found. Anyone with information about the missing items was asked to contact West Linn police at 503-635-0238.

According to KGW Reporter Katherine Cook, Senator Ron Wyden said he would help replace Tomes' items.
