LOOKOUT PASS — Idaho State Police said that Lookout Pass on I-90 would reopen at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The pass was shut down Monday because of avalanche danger from Mullan, Idaho to St. Regis, Montana. Some travelers had to stay the night in nearby towns like Wallace and Kellogg. Drivers were also forced to turn around to find a different way through the area.
“I figured there ought to be another way around, but apparently not. Back to Coeur d’Alene,” said driver, Phil Steffler.
Travelers needing to go to Montana were asked to use US-95 to SH-200 or US-2 as an alternate route.
This was the first time in over six years that the pass has closed due to avalanche danger.
