SPOKANE, Wash. -- Classes are scheduled to begin at Gonzaga University Tuesday, but some new students are concerned with a nearby neighborhood.
Many students are living in the Logan neighborhood near the campus. Some students said they’ve noticed more transients in the area. However, Spokane Police said there has not been a spike in crime in that area.
Police said the most common problem in the area is car break-ins and car thefts. Officers said nuisance calls are the most common in the Logan neighborhood and are expected to increase as students move-in for the school year.
The Gonzaga University Public Safety Department planned a formal presentation where all off-campus students can learn about safety concerns and prevention. It also encourages all students to report any suspicious behavior or call for a security escort if they ever feel unsafe.
