SPOKANE, Wash. -- Several small businesses have been recently victimized by shoplifters. Owners are frequently finding security tags cut off items and stuffed around the store.
Fringe on the South Hill said a recent inventory revealed the store's down nearly $2,000 because of thieves. Owner Tiffany Palmer said it's extra damaging when you're a small business.
"We feel like we know our customers," she said. "It's almost insulting that someone could come in and take from us like that."
Nearby Rae's has also dealt with shoplifters over the past few weeks. Both stores are amping up their security measures.
Swank near the Northtown Mall also is dealing with this. Staff told KREM they're combating it by communicating with other boutiques and their customers whenever there is suspicious activity. They're now messaging all small shop owners when they have an incident to give them a heads up.
