SPOKANE VALLEY -- Kevin Quindlen, a Philadelphia native who now lives in Spokane Valley, can’t wait to see the Phillies play the Mariners at Safeco Field this June. Before Wednesday, the father of five wasn’t sure if he would splurge and make the trip to Seattle to catch his favorite team play. Now that he has an extra $500,000, he’s making travel plans.
Even though he’s planning the cross-state trip this summer, Kevin says he’s not the big spender in the family. “Oh, my wife’s got a bunch of plans [for the money],” he said. “New furniture… she’ll get herself a new car and give her [old] car to the boys.” Kevin, a telemarketer, and Terry, a nurse, have five children.
Kevin said he always thought Hit 5 was “the right game to play.” Now that he’s won, he says he feels like some of the pressure is off.
Describing the win as “mind boggling,” Kevin said that he went to his local Safeway in Spokane Valley with his son at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening to check the numbers for the latest drawing. Remarkably, it was the first line of Kevin’s ten quick picks that matched the numbers. He was so excited that he didn’t even check the other nine. “My wife checked later, and we also had a $2 winner and a $1 winner,” he recalled.
Kevin bought his $500,000 Hit 5 ticket at Yokes Fresh Market at 9329 East Montgomery Avenue in Spokane Valley. The store will receive a $5,000 retail selling bonus.
