SPOKANE, Wash. -- The fourth local Red Cross volunteer is headed to Texas Thursday morning to help victims of Tropical Storm, Isaac.
Hundreds of volunteers are gathering in Texas to get orders on where they're headed next. The need for more resources and manpower continues to grow in the storm's wake.
Our local volunteers are in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Glen Lockwood is the Red Cross Director of Operations for Mississippi. He told KREM 2 Thursday morning they're continuing to see downpours and damaging winds. He said conditions have improved since Wednesday, but said the slow moving storm is still creating hazards.
Randy Nelson helps assess damage. As of Thursday morning, he's on stand-by in Texas waiting to get the green light to head to Baton Rogue. He said conditions are too rough to travel in right now. He said there are dozens of power lines down and flooding on roads.
If you'd like to help out, the Red Cross is actively collection financial donations. You can visit www.redcross.org to donate directly, or for more information.
