COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho.--A crack was left in a tree in Coeur d’Alene after it was struck by lightning on Tuesday.

Chuck Stark said he was watching the news around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday when a bolt of lightning hit his 100 foot Ponderosa Pine.

"Then all of a sudden ‘kaboom’ as soon as it hits the boom, that thing was incredible,” said Stark.

Paul Finney saw the tree near 15th Street and E. Gilbert Avenue explode from about one block away.

"Then all the sudden we saw the top of the tree just go flying down to the ground and then stuff started flying up everywhere,” said Finney.  "It shook everything around us and it was incredibly strong even a block and a half to two blocks away"

Storms battered Eastern Washington and N. Idaho on Tuesday. There was flash flooding in streets and parking lots in Coeur d’Alene.

Stark said he was glad the lightning and the tree debris missed his boat and shed.
