LEWISTON, Idaho-- According to date released by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the United States is becoming safer nearly every year.
In the 20 years through 2012, the U.S. violent crime rate has been almost cut in half. Just since 2007, the nation’s violent crime rate has declined from 471.8 to 386.9 incidents per 100,000 people.
While the prevalence of violent crime, which includes murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, has declined in many of the nation’s metropolitan areas, in some regions it has increased.
Lewiston ranked 10th on the list of cities where violent crime is soaring. Experts cited a rise in both robbery and aggravated assault.
