NORTH POLE, AK – The Letters to Santa program will resume after being cancelled briefly.
The annual program was called off earlier this week, in part because of concerns that a sex offender was volunteering to answer some of the letters.
Here is the news release written by the U.S. Postal Service announcing the return of the program:
Santa Claus once again will be able to get children’s letters at his workshop at the North Pole. The U.S. Postal Service has decided to resume the Letters to Santa program at the North Pole Post Office.
“We are very happy to share the news that the Letters to Santa program is returning to the North Pole post office and that the integrity of the North Pole postmark will not be compromised,” said Dianne Horbochuk, Alaska District Manager for the U.S. Postal Service.
“As they have for the last 234 years, Postal employees have stepped up to serve the community,” she added. “The incredible interest in the program, from consumers, Postal employees and elected officials, is further evidence that the Postal Service remains a vital, integral part of the American fabric.”
Individuals participating in the Letters to Santa program must comply with the Postal Service’s new privacy requirements.
Of course, it’s not just children who like to receive mail from the North Pole. Anyone wishing to add a festive postmark to their holiday greetings can have the North Pole postmark applied to their cards and letters.
To receive the North Pole postmark on holiday cards at the North Pole Post Office:
- Purchase stamps at any post office and affix the stamps to envelopes of your choice.
- Address the sealed envelopes, with the cards enclosed, to those on your mailing list.
- Present them to the North Pole post office or mail them in a larger envelope, box, Priority Mail or Express Mail package to:

In order to ensure delivery by Christmas, requests must be received by Dec. 15.
