WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash— At a ceremony Tuesday, state legislators named the Palouse Falls the official state waterfall.

Governor Jay Inslee signed House Bill 2119 in front of local 9th District legislators and students from Washtucna and the surrounding community.

Republican House Representative Joe Schmick of Colfax was the prime sponsor of the bill.

Schmick said, “We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a more beautiful day.”

He recognized the students for using the legislative process to pass the measure.

“It was their effort, perseverance and hard work that made this happen,” Schmick said. “And now we have the official state waterfall here in Eastern Washington.”

Schmick said he hoped the attraction would boost the local economy by bringing tourists to eastern Washington.
