COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) -- The U.S. Attorney for Idaho says a Lapwai man has been sentenced to just over one year in federal prison in connection with the assault of his girlfriend.
U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson said in a prepared statement that 41-year-old Paris Channing Leighton was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge on Wednesday. In addition to one year and one day in jail, Lodge ordered Leighton to perform 60 hours of community service.
Prosecutors said Leighton punched or kicked his girlfriend at their Lapwai home on May 18, 2012. Doctors determined she suffered facial fractures.
Leighton pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury in April.
