LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) -- A 37-year-old Lapwai man is jailed on suspicion of murder after another man died of injuries suffered during an altercation.

The Nez Perce Tribe says tribal police assisted with a medical call at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Lapwai. The victim had head trauma and was unresponsive.

Raymond Scott Jr., was initially arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery and warrants for failure to appear. The victim died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, leading prosecutors to seek the murder charge.

The case is being investigated by the FBI, which has not released further details, including the name and age of the victim.

Idaho court records indicate Scott's criminal history includes convictions for battery and domestic violence dating back to 2000. He also has pending two counts of battery, domestic violence and a third DUI offense.
