SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Spokane man is charged with arson after setting fire to the basement of his Perry District home.

Authorities said Dee Farmin set the fire because he was apparently upset with his roommate who is a registered level 3 sex offender. A woman was inside the home when he started the fire.

According to court documents Farmin set fire to his own home Tuesday afternoon because he was upset with David Werstein who was allegedly filming Farmin naked with cameras strategically placed around the home.

Farmin told police Werstein and another woman had been torturing him for the past three weeks and that he became frustrated and freaked out. He then told police he tried to set his house on fire and burn himself to death by placing gas on the floor and throwing a lit propane torch inside. When the house did not catch fire he left in his car.

It is unclear is Farmin knew the woman was in the home at the time.

Police caught Farmin trying to break into his own garage and he told officers he was going to kill the people inside the house.

Farmin was booked into the Spokane County Jail for First Degree Arson.  Werstein said he is moving out of the house.

The investigation is on-going.
