PONDERAY, Idaho--A Lake Pend Oreille School Board Chairman who suggested allowing teachers to carry guns in school said Wednesday that he will not resign.

The Bonner County clerk received enough signatures in December 2013 to start the process against Chairman Steve Youngdahl. The recall effort began when he proposed allowing teachers to carry guns at school.

The effort is in motion despite the fact that Youngdahl supported a different safety idea in January.

The new method seeks to train retired police officers to protect schools. The district will hold a special election on March 11 since Youngdahl would not resign. That is when voters will decide whether to accept or reject the recall.
