SPOKANE -- The Second Harvest Food Bank is partnering with the Spokane Boys and Girls club to provide food for the Kids Cafe program. Kids Cafe gives hearty and healthy snacks to children from low-income families. They provide hundreds of elementary-aged kids with a well-balanced and healthy serving of fresh fruits, dairy and whole grains at no cost. The snacks are given out during the after school and summer programs year-round. Second Harvest says nearly 2,000 children take part in this program already. The Boys and Girls club has three Kids Cafe sites that'll be providing food this summer locally. There are 25 cafes across Eastern Washington. Second Harvest Food Bank is always looking for donations. You can call them at 534-6678 for more information about the cafes or to find out how to help. They say every dollar donated puts six pounds of food on the table. And don't forget our 60,000 Pound Challenge is going on through Saturday, where you can donate food or money to Second Harvest at Huckleberry's on Monroe on Spokane's South Hill. Our goal-- as the name says-- to raise 60,000 pounds of food.
