SPOKANE, Wash.-- Now that marijuana is legal in Washington, some law enforcement agencies are reconsidering how they train their K-9 drug dogs.
Washington State Patrol says un-teaching their K-9s how to smell marijuana is not really possible. They have made adjustments for dogs that already learned the scent of the drug.
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office says they are not making any changes to their K-9s training because the drug is still illegal at a federal level.
WSP says their focus is not on finding drugs but finding drivers under the influence. They will remove marijuana from any refresher courses so the dogs can become less familiar with it.
