IDAHO--According to the District of Idaho District and Bankruptcy Court, citizens across the United States and recently in Idaho are being targeted by bogus phone calls and threatened with prosecution for failing to comply with a jury service in federal or state courts.
They said during the calls the threat of a fine for neglecting jury service is used to coerce callers into providing confidential data which could potentially lead to identity theft and fraud.
According to the district, the federal courts do not require potential jurors to provide sensitive financial information over the telephone.
They said persons receiving such a telephone call should notify the Clerk of Court's office of the United States District Court or state court in their area.
This matter has been turned over to the U.S. Marshal’s Office and they have been in contact with the FBI for further investigation.
