STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. -- Fire crews from District 1 responded to a 3-vehicle crash on State Route 291 at Milepost 12 Monday afternoon.

The crash at Big Sandy, just south of Suncrest, blocked traffic around 3:15 p.m.

Officials with Washington State Patrol say 64-year-old Jerry Fross of Spokane was driving south on SR 291 when he crossed the center line and crashed into the driver’s side door of a car driven by 28-year-old Johnny Howell of Deer Park.

Troopers said Fross then slammed head-on into another car driven by 35-year-old Darcie Hamilton of 9 Mile Falls. Hamilton had a 4-year-old passenger who was not hurt.

Troopers said Fross then rolled his vehicle and came to a rest in the center of the roadway.

Fross and Hamilton were transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

One lane was eventually opened and road crews alternated traffic.

Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash. Troopers do not think drugs or alcohol were involved.
