SPOKANE, Wash. -- Fire investigators blame a four-year-old with starting a house fire on Saturday along East 17th Avenue. The child was playing with a lighter when he started the fire.
Investigators said that no charges will be filed against the child. However, the child will be required to take the Fire Department’s Juvenile Firesetter Program.
The fire sent one man to the hospital on Saturday for severe smoke inhalation.
Firefighters arrived at the home to find smoke pouring outside. Fire crews searched the house and found the smoke inhalation victim.
Authorities believe the fire started on the second floor attic of the home. The first crews that arrived cut ventilation holes directly above the fire. It took firefighters 25 minutes to control the fire. Firefighters were able to contain the damage to the second floor.
The Red Cross is on the way to help the two adults and two children who will be displaced due to the fire.
