SPOKANE-- Crews responded to a hazmat call at the Holy Family Hospital in North Spokane.

Police say 6 people in the immediate area and 5 in the general area were experiencing respiratory problems and coughing. Four employees were also experiencing some respiratory discomfort.

Officials believe the symptoms were causes by some type of chemical in the air.

Investigators are looking at surveillance video to see how this chemical got into the air

Some are reporting a pepper spray-like irritant, but officials can’t confirm anything at this time.

Officials evacuated the first floor of the building. The ER is fully open.

Fire officials turned command back over to the hospital around 7 p.m.
