SPOKANE, Wash— A mechanic, who said his shop in Hillyard was hit multiple times in the past several weeks, caught the vandals in action Wednesday night on surveillance video.
Dan Zoecsh said the windows of two cars were smashed in the video footage. He added his new shop had been hit four times in 30 days.
Zoecsh opened the shop in January in hopes of revitalizing a small part of Hillyard on Queen Avenue. A suspect broke into a car late Wednesday night at Dan’s Pit Stop. Zoecsh watched the break-in unfold on his laptop Thursday morning.
This is not the first time Zoecsh has watched someone make late night raids at his car shop. Tuesday night the same thing happened to a different customer’s car. On Monday night, his cameras caught a suspect trying to pry open his front door.
“I think this could very well be the same guy because both time in both videos he ditches the backpack. Goes back and forth for his supplies,” said Zoecsh.
Zoecsh also played the video for one of the car owners.
“It wasn’t locked, he broke the window without even trying the handle,’ said car owner, Amanda Dorsey.
Police officers collected the video as evidence and took prints from the car.
The Spokane Police Department is actually reporting a decrease in property crime in the area and they have routine patrols in Hillyard.
The incidents combined caused more than $1,000 in damage.
Zoecsh said he does not want to change the location of his business because his family has been in the neighborhood for more than 60 years.
