SPOKANE-- Graffiti is costing the city of Spokane thousands of dollars worth of damage every year, but reports taggings are down in 2012. That is compared to the amount of tagging recorded during 2011.
The Spokane Police Department arrested seven people this year for graffiti. In 2011, there were only four graffiti arrests.
Authorities have received 650 reports of tagging in 2012 which is a 25% drop from the previous year. Even though there is a drop in reports, authorities said some neighbors are going out of their way to clean it up. Police said the hardest hit neighborhood is the Nevada-Lidgerwood area.
Police said it is hard to point the finger at who is responsible for the tagging. They added only 7-10% of cases for the year is gang related.
