SPOKANE, Wash.—A Spokane man has taken neighborhood security to a new level by giving his German shepherds cell phones.

John said he has enlisted his dogs Lila and Gunther to protect his business along Sprague by turning them into four-legged security systems.

He took their collars, added a cell phone and turned on the speakerphone. John gave the doggie gadget a trial run using his wife’s phone. He tied the phone collar onto one of the dogs, sent them outside to patrol for riffraff, and was able to control the dogs using the speakerphone.

“He obeyed my commands the very first time, it was just crazy,” said John.

John was so impressed with the cell phone collar he bought Gunther his own phone, adding to his family plan. Next, he said he’d like to help search and rescue crews adopt the technology.
