SPOKANE, Wash. – Accounting students at Gonzaga University have contributed over 700 hours as certified volunteer tax preparers. They filed more than 728 tax returns, totaling more than $1,000,000 in refund totals, according to the University.
The nearly 800 GU students worked for the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at the United Way site on Washington Street. The program offered free tax return preparation for low-income individuals.
Students from GU have volunteered every Tuesday and Saturday from February 1st through April 15th. Eastern Washington University and Whitworth University students also volunteered on Fridays.
