SPOKANE, Wash. -- Firefighters contained a garage fire Tuesday morning near 4th and Ray. The column of smoke was visible from Interstate 90 near the Freya/Thor exit.
Witnesses said flames spread quickly around 10:00 a.m. to the building just behind the Fred Meyer store. Firefighters said the garage was about 20’ x 20’ and made of wood. Flames spread to a tree and three other nearby garages according to fire crews.
Firefighters said the flames generated enough heat to bring down a few power lines in the area. Electrical wires burned through and dropped to the ground. Power to the entire block was disrupted until Avista crews were able to gain access to the damaged power pole and complete repairs.
No vehicles were damaged in the fire. Investigators estimated the fire caused $30,000 in damage.
