OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash.—Four fires burning in Okanogan County doubled overnight into the massive Carlton Complex wildfire. Flames have scorched 18,000 acres in the Methow Valley according to officials with the Department of Natural Resources.
The Carlton Complex includes the French Creek wildfire which was 3,000 acres and the Cougar Flats wildfire which was 5,000 acres.
DNR leaders confirmed on Thursday that two homes have been destroyed. There were likely other buildings damaged or destroyed. DNR workers were working to survey the damage as of Thursday morning. A portion of Highway 20 is also closed nearby.
A command post was set up at Liberty Bell High School. Firefighters are primarily battling the flames from the air.
The fires began Wednesday in the area.
