SPOKANE-- Construction at Ferris High School was still underway just days before the start of the school year, and school officials don’t expect any problems.
Students will have classes in the new building and in the old building.
Construction workers and contractors worked to put final touches on a brand new building on the Ferris High School Campus Friday.
Students will return to 40 new and technologically improved class rooms, new offices, and a large commons area for lunch, and a retail shop.
Improvements were also made to security, and the heating and cooling systems according to School Principal Kevin Foster
The school modernization project isn’t set to wrap up for another 18 months so school and construction must co-exist during the 2012, 2013 school year. A new doorway cut in the old building and a broad walkway gives students safe access between buildings. “We've worked hard to create safe pathways where kids won't have to move through any part of the actual construction but stay connected between the elements of the building that we'll be using continuously,” said Foster.
Buses drop off students along 37th Avenue and they can enter through the new building.
