NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. -- One woman died in a crash Thursday night near Nine Mile Falls. Officials said alcohol and speed were most likely factors in the crash that killed Jolene Picard, 27.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner said she died from head, chest and abdominal injuries.
Multiple agencies, including the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and the Stevens County Fire District, responded to a heavy extrication call just after 8:00 p.m. near W. Long Lake Road and W. Charles Road. A witness described seeing a black SUV wrapped around a tree along side the road.
Medics declared the female driver dead at the scene.
Investigators said her vehicle was traveling north on Long Lake Road when the woman drove off the south shoulder, overcorrected and slid off the north shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle became airborne and struck the large pine tree with its roof, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
