SPOKANE, Wash.—The man who was injured in a Downtown Spokane attack earlier in the week spoke to reporters Thursday. The family member also released photos of Palmer after the attack.

Bruce Palmer claimed that a group of teenagers assaulted him Monday night after he left the Steamplant Grill with his wife.  Police arrived and intervened between Bruce Palmer, 56, and the suspects.  The teenage suspect was arrested and faced a judge Tuesday.

Witnesses said the couple was leaving in their vehicle when they encountered a group of ten kids blocking the roadway.

The couple reported hearing a loud bang as if someone had slapped or kicked the vehicle according to police.  Witnesses said the teens eventually backed off enough to let the couple’s van pass, but then slapped the vehicle as it went by.

One of the kids claimed he was hit by the van and screamed at Palmer’s wife, Billie.
“Stuck his head into my window and yelled, ‘B-word, you f-ing b-word you hit me,’” said Billie Palmer.

Officers said Palmer got out of the vehicle to check on the kid and to confront the group and an altercation began, turning into a physical fight. While Palmer was holding one juvenile male, a couple of the kids began kicking him investigators said.

“This 6’2,” 245 pound predator clenched his fists tight and assaulted my husband,” said Billie.

Both the suspect and Palmer were treated for minor injuries according to police.
Bruce Palmer said he hopes his horrifying story will turn into something positive.

“Our hope is that what we endured will actually begin the start of something, that we will begin to take our streets back,” said Bruce.

The Palmer’s want some sort of ordinance to pass to prevent kids from hanging out in Downtown Spokane causing trouble.

Spokane police said if you are ever in a similar situation, do not get out of the car. They said call police from inside your car and do not engage street kids.

The teen that fought with Palmer is charged with fourth degree assault.
