COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho— A Facebook friendship ended Tuesday with the Coeur d’Alene officers arresting a 26-year-old from Canada for rape and exploitation or a minor.

Officers took Joshua McKenzie, 26, into custody Tuesday afternoon when a 16-year-old girl’s mother alerted police.

Police said McKenzie traveled to Coeur d’Alene on Monday to meet with the teenage girl. The two later met at a motel. Officers said the suspect and the teenager spent the night there.

McKenzie drove the teen home on Tuesday to meet her mother. The teenager’s mother, who thought she was spending the night with a friend, called police.

The two had been corresponding online according to authorities. Officers said the victim friended McKenzie on Facebook about six months ago and a sexual conversation ensued for several months.
