What was your favorite part of Expo '74?
SPOKANE, Wash. – The 40th Anniversary of the World’s Fair or Expo ’74 comes to Downtown Spokane in May 2014. Organizers said the spring and summer anniversary is bringing a variety of different celebrations over the coming months.
More than five million people attended over the course six-month fair in the summer of 1974, and the event left Spokane with Riverfront Park.
The Parks Department is hosting several events through the summer to celebrate the anniversary. Some of the same performers will be back in Spokane. Organizers said they also have arts fairs and cultural displays planned to show how Spokane has grown since Expo ‘74.
Organizers said they hope the new events will also remind people of the 74 different activities already available in Riverside Park. City officials said they admit they need to make improvements to bring more people to the park in the future.

“It needs more investment, it needs more excitingness in the park,” said Riverfront Park Director Sam Song.
The two largest events for the celebration include the kickoff expo gala in May and a larger fireworks show for the 4th of July.
