SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash.—SCRAPS executed a search warrant at an apartment on West Broadway on Wednesday. SCRAPS officials said eleven dogs were taken from the apartment unit by animal protection officers.
Officials said the warrant was in connection with animal cruelty in the second degree, confining an animal in an unsafe manner and operating a commercial kennel without a license.
“The apartment was so cluttered with belongings that there was not much room for the dogs or the individual,” said Field Operations Manager Nicole Montano. “The belongings created hallways and hiding spots that the officers had to maneuver through to get the dogs out.”
The dogs included two Rottweiler mixes, a chow mix, and eight Chihuahua mixes. The animals were evaluated by a veterinarian and were undergoing treatment for fleas and urine scalding on their body.
The investigation was ongoing and the animals were not available for adoption on Wednesday.
