SPOKANE, Wash.--  An elderly woman opened fire in her Spokane home early Monday, after spotting what she thought was a burglar in her home.

Authorities said it happened just before 6 a.m. on the 2900 block of E. Longfellow.

Authorities said the 90-year-old woman woke up to a burglar outside of her bedroom.  They said she grabbed her gun and fired one round, which lodged into a wall.  She told authorities the burglar escaped and she called for help.

When authorities arrived, they said there were no footprints in the snow around her home and that the home was securely locked.  Officers confiscated the woman’s gun and in the meantime, got her in touch with family and elderly services.

Police said it appeared as if no one broke into the home but that they would continue to investigate the situation.
