SPOKANE -- Firefighters say batteries in an alarm system caught fire causing the evacuation of a building in North Spokane Monday morning.
The call came in around 7:00 a.m. for the Rockpointe East building on Atlantic near the intersection of Sinto. That's just a block west of Division.
Firefighters reported smoke in the building upon their arrival. Our KREM 2 News crew on the scene said it looked like at least 100 people were outside the building for about 45 minutes.
Firefighters allowed the workers to go back inside the building around 7:45, but told them to stay out of the section of the third floor where the fire started until the smoke clears.
