SPOKANE, Wash.-- Drivers now have a new option when it comes to paying to park downtown. 200 parking meters were outfitted with credit card readers. If all goes well, it could lead to the modernization of every coin operated parking meter in town.
The meters being tested are mainly around Riverpark Square and Spokane City Hall. So far, officials said drivers are paying with coins. However, they said credit card usage is increasing.
After the initial testing period, the City plans to activate a new sensor feature. It will clear extra time on meters when a driver pulls away.
