SPOKANE, Wash. -- A Downtown furniture store is getting a new elevator that is the first of its kind in Spokane.
Dania Furniture is getting a modular elevator. Traditional elevators are usually assembled on site, but this one is not. The elevator shafts arrived on two flatbed semi-trucks Friday already assembled.
Crews then lowered the towers into an empty hole in the building.
“It sounds crazy to people, but that’s exactly how it’s done. It helps so that we can actually install an elevator in under a week,” said Vertical Options Elevator Employee, Keely Friesen.
The five-story elevator weighs in at about 60,000 pounds. The new elevator is replacing an old freight elevator in the Dania building.
Crews hope to have the new elevator installed by October 18.
