(NEAR HAUSER LAKE, Idaho) -- Animal workers from SCRAPS removed 38 dogs from a breeder's home near Hauser Lake, saying many were emaciated or needed treatment for infections.
The property is on the Washington-Idaho state line at 26727 N. Hauser Lake Road.
SCRAPS told KREM 2 News that the property owner, 61-year-old Wilma Turner, had between 133 dogs on her property. 90 of those dogs were adults. State law only allows 60 adult dogs maximum on a property.
The dogs that were found were described as emaciated, infected and with "serious grooming issues."
Turner has not been charged in today's investigation, but was arrested on an unrelated charge. Turner is a convicted felon who is not allowed to have guns, but officers found three guns on the property and detained her on those charges.
SCRAPS Director Nancy Hill says workers checked out a complaint earlier this week and found "some things" that made them want to come back, this time with a warrant. Hill says it will be a day-long investigation.
Many of the dogs are labradoodles. Labradoodles are a special breed prized for their temperament, and for some people who find them less likely to cause allergies.
Hill says workers visited the same breeder last November to check out a complaint. At that time, there were 60 Labradoodles on the property. SCRAPS says they did not find evidence of neglect and did not remove any of the animals at that time.
