SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Deputies arrested two teens after a garage burglary on Tuesday where the homeowners claimed one of the suspects threatened him with a machete.
Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in the along S. Riverway Avenue in Spokane Valley around 1:50 a.m.
The homeowners claimed they heard sounds in the garage so they emptied a can of bear spray into it. The suspects broke a window to escape, according to the homeowners.
The homeowners said the garage had been broken into several times in the last few days, but they hadn’t reported the incidents because nothing of value had been taken.
One of the victims carrying a shotgun confronted the armed 17-year-old suspect in the front yard. The victim said the teen advanced towards him with the machete so he fired a warning shot towards the fence. The teen then dropped the weapon and laid on the ground, according to authorities.
The 17-year-old suspect was arrested and transported to the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center where he was booked for Burglary 1st Degree. Investigators later arrested Raynee D. Moore, 19, on the same charge. Initial information indicates the suspects believed there might be a large stash of marijuana stored at the residence.
Investigators were searching for a third suspect on Wendesday afternoon.
