SPOKANE, Wash. -- Nurses and healthcare workers at Deaconess and Valley Hospitals are ready to strike because they want staffing levels and patient care improved.

Workers gave notice that unless Deaconess and Valley settle a contract that includes staffing improvements and end what they believe to be unfair labor practices they will strike.  Workers said they will strike for one day on November 20 at 6 a.m. until November 21 at 5:59 a.m.

Nurses at Valley and healthcare workers at both hospitals said they have been at the bargaining table with the hospitals for months and they have not responded to the proposed staffing increases.

If a deal is not reached, 1,000 workers would strike including dietary employees, housekeeping, registration, health unit coordinators, sterile processors, nurses, and nursing assistants.
