COEUR D’ALENE-- Fifteen years after Coeur d’Alene city leaders came up with the idea to redesign McEuen Park, crews finally got to work this week.

Work was expected to begin Thursday with phase one of the multimillion dollar projects.

Avista crews put in a new power system for the parking lot and boat dock. The lighting was put in for construction crews working on the $14.2 million.

Coeur d’Alene parks director Doug Eastwood said phase one will put in a new parking lot, and remove part of the old one. It will also build a new trail through the park.

Crews will be adding an amphitheater, a larger play ground and a dog park.

Eastwood says the heavy earth moving machines should be on site to replace Avista's equipment on Thursday.

Phase one should be done March of next year and the whole park should be done by November 2013.
