COEUR D’ALENE -- Bar owners in downtown Coeur d’Alene are fed up with people urinating in public outside of their businesses.

Owners say the problem escalates at night when people are out partying. They say some people head to back alleys and turn brick walls and dumpsters into their personal urinals.

“I think it is gross.  If you’re going to use the restroom, do it on your own time in the restroom. No one wants to see you peeing in public. No one does,” said Katherine Schwarz, who works at one of the bars.

Coeur d’Alene Police officers say at least ten people have been busted for the act since May, and that number does not include the people cited this month. 19 citations were issued for the same thing during the same time frame last year.

Getting caught urinating in public in Coeur d’Alene carries a fine of up to $300 and up to six months in jail.
