SPOKANE--The City of Spokane is officially marking the start of snow season.
Spokane’s snow removal plan defines the snow season as being from November 15th to March 15th. During that time period, the city can declare a snow event when weather conditions warrant.
At Stage 1 Snow Event goes into effect when two inches of snow are on the ground and four more are expected to fall. A Stage 1 event requires citizens to move their cars off arterials and STA fixed bus routes. Citizens must also park on one side of the street in residential hill routes.
A Stage 2 Snow Event is declared when six inches of snow are on the ground and more is expected to fall. A Stage 2 event requires citizens to do the same as in Stage 1, but also requires they park on one side of the street in all residential areas.
For the 2012-13 winter, citizens are asked to park on the even side of the street. The city can issue tickets and/or tow vehicles that don’t follow the parking restrictions.
The city also asks that citizens remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours. The city may send warnings or tickets to property owners who don’t comply.
