SPOKANE, Wash. -- The City of Spokane outlined procedures that would take place in order to fill the upcoming vacancy on the City Council.

City officials said applications for Salvatori’s seat would start being accepted July 10.  The application process would close on July 24.

Council members would then review all applications, interview them, and rank their top 5. The top names would have to be given to Council President Ben Stuckart by July 31.

A committee comprised of three council members will review and compile council member rankings and determine the top applicants for interviews by the entire council. Those interview sessions will be open to the public. They were scheduled to take place between Aug. 11 and Aug. 15. The vote to fill the seat being vacated by Salvatori was set for Aug. 18.

Candidates must have lived in the 3rd City Council District since Aug. 18 of 2013 to apply for the seat.

The 3rd City Council District encompasses the area North of the Spokane River and West of Division Street.
