SPOKANE -- The owner of the stolen vehicle involved in Monday morning's police chase says this is not the first time her car has been stolen.
KREM 2’s Katie Utehs spoke with the owner of the Honda who said this is the second time the car has been stolen.
Police said Rachel Banks, 24, was eluding police in a stolen car around 2 a.m. before she crashed near Maple and Gardner. An officer spotted the car because it had no license plates and was following a Camaro very closely across the Maple Street Bridge.
When the officer tried to pull the cars over, the drivers took off. Police pursued the cars briefly but quickly stopped.
When the officer got across the bridge, he found the Honda wrapped around a telephone pole. The car hit the pole so hard wrapped around the pole and landed in a yard up against a home.
Firefighters were able to pry Banks from the car and she was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in serious but not critical condition.
Banks will be arrested when she is released for eluding an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police said the Camaro Banks had been following did stop at the crash scene, but it took off as soon as officers arrived. Investigators believe it is involved with the crash and are working to locate the driver.
