SPOKANE, Wash.—A Spokane family sopped up water at their home after storm drains backed up causing their basement to flood.
This is after rain drenched the city during a storm late Wednesday.
The family put down towels trying to keep the water from spreading and used buckets to clear out some of the water gushing into the home near Crown and Helena.
They say water poured into the basement for 30 minutes. The family said the flooding destroyed several belongings, enough to fill up their back porch. But family members said they are remaining optimistic.
“Of course we're going to be doing a lot of manual labor ourselves. But of course we're thankful too. We don't have a lot of the devastation that's happening all over the world. So we're still here, our house is still standing,” said Sharon Azzinnaro
The family is expected to find out Thursday whether their insurance company will cover the damage. They hope the city will cover some of the cost if insurance doesn’t because the storm drain that flooded is a city drain.
A total of five homes on the block experienced flooding during the storm.
