SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho -- The discovery of a suspicious item shut down part of Spirit Lake Wednesday morning but the device turned out to be a toy grenade, authorities said.
A bomb squad had used a robot to examine the device, which was found in a mailbox on Middle Avenue, authorities said. Police had blocked off the area after the discovery was made.
The situation was cleared around 11:15 a.m. when investigators discovered the item as a toy grenade.
Authorities said the investigation did not affect any schools in the area. However, they took extra care because a relative visiting the family had received a threat in 2013.
