LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) -- Officials with the Idaho State Police say an inmate found dead in a northern Idaho jail cell hanged himself and foul play is not suspected.
The Idaho State Police says an autopsy was performed Tuesday on 19-year-old Chad V. Gardner, a Kootenai County prisoner who was being housed at the Nez Perce County jail. Gardner was found dead in his cell early Saturday morning by a guard who was doing a routine check on inmates.
Nez Perce County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Alan Johnson says there was no indication that Gardner needed special supervision. Johnson says the sheriff's office is putting together a panel of people from other agencies to perform an administrative review of the case and jail policies.
